Selling Your Precious

It’s not often that we have to sell our precious musical instruments but when we do it’s hard. It tears at the soul for some of us because of the attachment we all have for them. To us, or at least me, it’s more than just a piece of wood and steel strings. It’s more than just a guitar, it’s a part of us. It’s a part of our being and our souls. But every once in a while we must part with it.
Over the last 10 years I’ve build, taken apart and bought several guitars. But I don’t think I’ve ever actually sold one. Currently I have 12 guitars (including basses) and oddly enough most of them were given to me. And those I cannot bare to part with. One is my mom’s 2 are my dad’s, my grandfather gave me a 1960′s violin bass and my mother pulled one out of her ass one day and said, “here’s a guitar I found.” I’m still not quite sure where it came from but it’s old and needs some work.
Well, now’s come the time to finally let go of some. Out of the 12 there’s about 3-5 I can actually get rid of and even those are up for debate. It’s so hard to let go! But I know I need to. I know that it’s just time for some of them to move on. They are just sitting in my closest doing nothing hanging out in their cases. I’ll probably never play them anyway.
The only real motivation I have to sell them is that… well, if I sell enough I can buy a new one!
