Triove II. Wants of Some Desires is back on drawing board! In the midst of working on my original band Outerdocks, I have neglected many of my older classical compositions. Several new ones have been started (although not completed). But then Matthew Habib contacted me again saying he’d love to start working on the Second Movement of Triove entitled: “Wants of Some Desires“. So here I am working on it! Hopefully in a month or so I’ll have a decent version of it done and ready for recordings!

Siam Mais was first preformed April 19th, 2008 at Florida Southern College’s Anne MacGregor Jenkins Recital Hall. It was performed for Phi Mu Alpha’s American Composers Recital directed by Brandon Bair. Although the recital itself was one of the most awkward recitals I’ve seen during my career at Florida Southern the performance went well. I was very pleased with both Matthew Habib, tenor and Sara Gibbs, piano performance. They were great to work with for the couple of weeks prior and really gave me an insight into writing for these particular instruments. I started to write Triove simply because Habib asked me to write him a piece. We had shared several classes together in the past and liked each others work. After years and several projects later I finally begun to work on it. I knew I had to get some lyrics from somewhere. It just so happened that I [...]

I have officially begun working on the second movement of Triove entitled “Wants of Some Desires”. Each movement represents a different kind of love. The first (Siam Mais) is about an innocent love where the narrator could not contain his heart even if he wanted to. The second movement is about love gone astray and the feelings of hatred and betrayal that are left behind. The third movement… well you’ll have to wait and find out more about that later. Similar to the other movements, “Wants of Some Desires” will feature a tenor voice and piano. Additionally, the lyrics are also from Billy Corgan’s book of Poetry entitled “Blinking with Fists”. For a sneak speak as to what you’re in for I’ll give you the lyrics. I’m given to wants of some desires And given to wants of none at all For fires consumed burn so bright Unable to be [...]

On April 25, 2008 I had all of my completed pieces preformed at Florida Southern College (Excluding “Through the Eyes of the Mind”, of course). It was an experience to work with the wonderfully talented musicians at my school. Many of the pieces were completed but never finished. Through the hours of rehearsals I ended editing a lot to do miner tweaks and you’ll even notice on Siam Mais that the video for it (April 19, 2008) actually has a different ending than the recording (April 25, 2008). I have here the program notes from the performance including the performers and a brief description. I TRIOVE is a trio of love songs for tenor and piano. Currently only the first movement is complete with the other two in the beginning stages. The title emerged from a combination of the words “trio” and “love” with the movement titles being that of [...]
