It’s not often that we have to sell our precious musical instruments but when we do it’s hard. It tears at the soul for some of us because of the attachment we all have for them. To us, or at least me, it’s more than just a piece of wood and steel strings. It’s more than just a guitar, it’s a part of us. It’s a part of our being and our souls. But every once in a while we must part with it. Over the last 10 years I’ve build, taken apart and bought several guitars. But I don’t think I’ve ever actually sold one. Currently I have 12 guitars (including basses) and oddly enough most of them were given to me. And those I cannot bare to part with. One is my mom’s 2 are my dad’s, my grandfather gave me a 1960′s violin bass and my mother [...]

The latest song I’ve been working on is entitled “Selfish”. It’s a topic that’s been haunting me for the last four years and haven’t been able to get off of my mind no matter who I tell. I’ll go into more detail about it once I have the lyrics finalized. “Selfish” is going to be my first Popular Music piece written since I moved to Lakeland and started my schooling. Since then I’ve all but refused to write a song with the standard I-IV-V Chord Progression that found running rampant throughout most popular music. It’ll be interesting to see how different this song turns out than that of “Call It What You Will” and other Spacesuit Goddess songs recorded just before I moved. Unintenionally I’ve also written the basis for the the Bass Guitar as well. It’s something that just flowed out. I’ve always had a thing for progressive basslines [...]

I’d first like to note that details in this post have been summarized to shorten otherwise lengthy explanations. The Story June 30th is a very special day for me. Five years ago my mother had succumb to her cancer. She had been fighting it valiantly for years but eventually it proved to be too much. Although I miss her deeply I had decided years ago that it was not a day to mourn nor a day to regret nor feel sorry for myself. It is a day to celebrate. For life, her life, is worth celebration. Since then I’ve done my best to live my life they way I want to and to push myself towards my dreams. If she believed in me even through her pain how could I not believe in myself? So here I am. With my music. Writing music. Writing about music. This is my dream [...]

The 25 Estudes Op. 60 was composed by Matteo Carcassi and is considered by many to be a collection of his most famous works. The purpose of these pieces is to blend the technical aspects of the guitar with lush Romantic Melodies. The first piece preformed, No. 3, has a brilliant, beautiful melody that carries throughout the piece. The tempo is relatively slow but overall it is a brilliant piece. No. 7 is another short piece that contrasts the first. It’s faster and carries the melody primarily through the bass line. The final piece, No. 19, is the shortest piece between the three. It offers a great, slow-moving melody in the high range of the instrument. In these pieces Carcassi was able to demonstrate the full aspect of the guitar’s potential from the fantastic melodies it can create to the expanded harmony. II Six Lute Pieces of the Renaissance was [...]

On April 25, 2008 I had all of my completed pieces preformed at Florida Southern College (Excluding “Through the Eyes of the Mind”, of course). It was an experience to work with the wonderfully talented musicians at my school. Many of the pieces were completed but never finished. Through the hours of rehearsals I ended editing a lot to do miner tweaks and you’ll even notice on Siam Mais that the video for it (April 19, 2008) actually has a different ending than the recording (April 25, 2008). I have here the program notes from the performance including the performers and a brief description. I TRIOVE is a trio of love songs for tenor and piano. Currently only the first movement is complete with the other two in the beginning stages. The title emerged from a combination of the words “trio” and “love” with the movement titles being that of [...]
